Malden has a lower percentage of protected open space than all its neighboring communities, except Somerville. NOTE: Malden is virtually tied with Somerville for the least amount of protected open space in our region and Somerville is widely recognized as the MOST densely populated city in Massachusetts. As of 2010, Somerville was the 15th MOST densely populated city in the United States.
